AMN Healthcare has been retained to lead a national search for the new Department Chair, Dermatology at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University. The Opportunity

This is an extraordinary opportunity to advance the Department of Dermatology across all missions, broaden its impact on the community and the field of Dermatology, and build upon the national profile of the Department after a historic merger which established the largest health sciences center in the Commonwealth of Virginia. On July 1, 2024, the R1 institution of Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) came together to form Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.



Reporting to the Dean of EVMS, the Chair of Dermatology will be an accomplished physician, administrator, and inspirational leader, prepared to devote this phase of their career to the advancement of the faculty, trainees, department, and medical school. The successful candidate will be an individual with a collaborative, engaging, and open leadership style, one who can inspire faculty, learners, patients and potential donors.



The Department Chair provides leadership in strategic vision and collaborative implementation to ensure the future growth of the Department. The Chair will work closely with the EVMS leadership, faculty, and staff and is responsible for the Department's overall clinical, research, academic, and administrative activities. Active in national activities, they will have a professional network that will be an important asset in recruitment and elevation of the national reputation of the department and institution. Additional duties and faculty rank will be influenced by candidate qualifications and interests, departmental needs, and clinical practice requirements, as applicable.



The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should possess academic credentials that qualify for appointment as Associate or Full Professor, have a national reputation of successful research and/or leadership and demonstrate the ability to lead at strategic, tactical, and administrative levels, including experience managing space and financial resources. The Chair must be a compelling leader whose passion for the clinical, educational, and research missions energize the faculty, learners, and staff, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence in all missions. Of particular importance is strong clinical leadership experience in an academic setting, along with the skillset to successfully recruit, think strategically, mentor, collaborate, and understand the ever-changing healthcare environment.



Qualifications

MD, DO, MD/PhD, or equivalent terminal degree in a related area.
Must be board certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
Must possess or be eligible for an unrestricted Medical License in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Academic credentials that qualify for appointment as Associate or Full Professor.

Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University represents the most comprehensive health sciences center in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Grounded in commitment to the diverse communities in which it serves, Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is developing a larger pipeline for healthcare professionals and leading the transformation of the health and economy of Hampton Roads and beyond. This new academic health sciences center was founded on July 1, 2024, following the integration of Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) into Old Dominion University. The Region

The Hampton Roads region that EVMS serves is a vibrant community with 1.7 million residents across nine cities in southeastern coastal Virginia: Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg.
