- Mary Williams, MD, Professor Emeritus at UCSF and long-time WDS member, was awarded the Alvin Jacobs award of the American Academy of Pediatrics, an award of lifetime achievement and contributions to Pediatric Dermatology, in July 2008.
- Bernice Krafchik, MD has received the “Award of Merit” from the Canadian Dermatology Association.
- Adriana M. Villa, MD was awarded 1st place at the Miami Dermatological Society and the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, Dept. of Dermatology & Cutaneous Surgery Resident’s Day. Her study, “Single-Blind Study Determining the Efficacy of Polypodium leucotomos Extract Supplement in Decreasing UVA Premutagenic and Photoaging Markers” was funded by a WDS grant.
- Wilma Bergfeld, MD will serve as President of the American Society of Dermatopathology beginning October 2008.
- WDS members, Mary Lupo, MD and Jeffrey Klein, MD were recently elected to the ASDS board of directors.
- Dedee Murrell, MD has joined the editorial board of the JAAD.
- The Roberts Skin Type Classification System developed by Wendy E. Roberts, MD was published in the May Journal of Drugs in Dermatology and featured in New Beauty magazine.
- Zoe Diana Draelos, MD was recently appointed to the Council on Scientific Affairs for the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
- Bari Cunningham, MD recently returned from a humanitarian mission to Guatemala with a surgical team to treat children with xeroderma pigmentosa. Through a career development grant from WDS, she worked with filmmaker Brian Knappenberger to produce a documentary about XP.
- Amy McMichael, MD and Maria Hordinsky, MD published and edited a new book in March 2008, entitled Hair and Scalp Diseases: Medical, Surgical, and Cosmetic Treatments. They had a very talented group of contributors for many of the chapters.
- Sylvia Jacinto, MD recently published Clinical Atlas of Dermatology of Brown Skin with more than 2000 photographs collected from her 40 years of practice.
- Carey Bligard, MD recently had her first novel published. The book is a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice titled And This Our Life under her pen name C. Allyn Pierson.
- Kelly Cordoro, MD has just joined the faculty in Adult and Pediatric Dermatology at UCSF.
