WDS Awards Programs

Academic Research Program

The WDS launched the WDS Academic Research Program in 2006 to provide research awards in the amounts of $3,000 - $8,000 each to residents and young physicians. The award is intended to focus mainly on women's health issues where further clinical and basic research is needed.

Career & Community Advancement Award

The WDS Career & Community Advancement Award provides financial support for members for either career development or for development of community-based dermatological activities. Awards of up to $10,000 is available and may be used to acquire specific skills to enhance professional development through "hands-on" training, other educational activities, and/or for the design and conduct of community-based dermatologic activities intended to enhance our understanding of dermatologic conditions.

International Travel Program

The WDS International Travel Awards Program provides a Travel Award of up to $2,500 to each awardee. The purpose of these awards is to provide support for women dermatologists from other countries to attend the WDS Annual Luncheon and Business Meeting, as well as the American Academy of Dermatology's Annual Meeting.

Medical Student Awareness Program

Want to Learn More About Skin? The WDS Medical Student Awareness Program will allow you to work with a leading dermatologist and learn about this fascinating field of medicine. Awards of up to $2000 each will be awarded to qualifying medical students interested in learning more about dermatology by working with a leading dermatologist in private practice or at the university level. A detailed budget request must be attached and submitted with the application.

Mentorship Awards Program

The WDS Mentorship Awards Program is to promote the concept of mentorship within the WDS by establishing long-term relationships between mentors and their protégés. The Purpose of the Award is to develop mentoring relationships that might not otherwise be possible due to distance or funding availability. The program helps develop leadership potential in candidates who have shown early promise through exceptional activities.

Women's Health Research Career Development Awards Program

The Women's Health Research Career Development Awards was established by the WDS to provide support for research that focuses on health issues that primarily affect women. The award is offered through the Dermatology Foundation. The award is for research done in the area of women's health issues, which range from disorders that affect primarily women, such as lupus and scleroderma, to the effects of hormones and environmental factors on the skin and cutaneous aging."
